With more and more Indian labels offering denims that combine quality and style, why look elsewhere?
A good pair of jeans is a staple in any closet. While trends may come and go, denim is something that will stand the test of time, alluding to an ever-growing demand–and market–for it across the globe. Whether your choice of bottomwear is a skinny fit or baggy, mom jeans or boyfriend jeans, the best pairs are the ones you are comfortable enough to spend your days in, heck, even go trekking in them.
According to a recent forecast by Research and Markets,as reported by the Financial Express, the global market for jeans will reach $87.4 billion by 2027, after being revised from $63.5 billion in 2020. The report also stated that the Indian denimwear market specifically is expected to reach ₹ 91,894 crore by 2028. Considering these numbers, it’s no wonder that we are now seeing more homegrown labels playing the field, on par with popular international brands like Levis’, Wrangler and Lee Cooper. Here’s a round-up of seven Indian labels that tick all boxes – comfort, quality and style.

Blue Brew:
Mumbai-based Anirudh Singh and Aditya Rathi founded Blue Brew in 2020 to inspire a new generation to be unapologetically themselves. Blue Brew’s denim collection goes beyond skinny fits and ripped jeans, with looser silhouettes offering a streetwear aesthetic. Their patchwork denims comprise multiple pockets (the Geometric Patch Two Tone jeans feature as many as seven pockets) and are available in multiple fits such as bootcut to boyfriend jeans.

Days For Clothing (DFC):
If you’re looking for a not-so-basic pair of jeans, you might want to pay attention to what this Mumbai-based label has to offer. Their multi-coloured tie-dyed denims have found a fan in rapper Vivian Fernandes, aka Divine, who has been spotted wearing DFC denims for his gigs. With streetwear as the brand’s underlining DNA, you’ll find looser, cargo-style denims and sweatshirts that cater to all genders. You’ll also find printed, oversized denim shirts and denim maxi skirts, albeit limited pieces.

This union is visible in their label There!, which encourages the wearer to bring out their authentic self through clothing. The Summer House:
Did you know that denim is one of the most polluting garments, consuming 10,000 litres of water to create a single pair? The Summer House’s solution emerges from their conscious, sustainable approach to fashion. Although they have a limited number of denim pieces in their collection, The Summer House’s jeans are handwoven in Gujarat and are 100 per cent recycled, using zero electricity and no dyes.

Apart from bottomwear, you’ll also find denim bodysuits and corsets. However, if you had to pick one garment, we’d suggest you check out the denim bomber jackets, perfect to throw on when freezing in the office.
