Here’s who each zodiac sign is from the world of literature
Ever wondered who you, your best friend, or your parents could possibly be if they were characters from books based on their zodiac signs? The 12 zodiac signs come with their own set of quirks and unique characteristics. While authors may not have kept astrology in mind while fleshing out their characters, wouldn’t it be interesting to think as to which zodiac signs they may have possibly been born under for them to be written the way they were?
The Established takes a look at all 12 zodiac signs to find out which character from literature most closely resembles the traits assigned to each.

Aries (21 March - 19 April):Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Feisty, independent, driven, and a little impulsive, the fact that Scarlett O’Hara is an Aries is a complete no-brainer. She loves and hates with equal passion, and one would be silly to lock horns with a ram like her. “Death, taxes and childbirth! There’s never any convenient time for any of them,” is among the many memorable lines Scarlett said. One can easily imagine their Arian best friend uttering something similar on a particularly difficult day.

Taurus (20 April - 20 May):Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Ruled by Venus, which controls matters of love, wealth, and beauty, the hedonist Dorian Gray embodies earthly pleasures—ones he doesn’t stop himself from seeking. He is an archetype of youth and beauty that fascinates artist Basil Hallward;however, his slightly unusual ways make him wont to fall prey to excesses in life. Frankly, we all are guilty of this, regardless of our sun signs—just that a Taurean is a little too predisposed to it. While that might be a bit of menace in real life, this zodiac sign’s personality does make for brilliant stuff in literature.

Gemini (21 May - 20 June):Sherlock Holmes from the Sherlock Holmes series by Arthur Conan Doyle
Of the 12 zodiac signs, it’s Gemini who’ll leave you a little dazed and confused by the end of a conversation. They speak faster than they think, and think doubly as fast because they’re two people masquerading as one. This makes Sherlock Holmes the perfect candidate for Gemini as the thinking, pacing, eccentric private investigator who continues to capture imaginations across the world. He’s charming, smooth-talking, but also frustratingly confusing to figure out for his best mate John Watson. Who doesn’t feel the same way about their Gemini besties?

Cancer (21 June - 22 July): Dobby from the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
Even if Dobby isn’t human, he almost certainly is a crab in elf form. Your friend or sibling who cares too much and says too little, sometimes? Yes, they’re Cancerians. This zodiac sign’s personality is ruled by the moon, the celestial body that controls our emotions. Cancerians will do absolutely anything to protect their loved ones, and who better than Dobby to illustrate their loyalty? He gave his life for Master Harry, and would do so a thousand times over if he had to.

Leo (23 July - 22 August): Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
If there’s one character from literature that has gone down in the pages of history as someone who made everything larger than life, it has to be Jay Gatsby. A self-made man who keeps his tragic past under wraps, but opens the doors to his home for everyone to partake in his celebrations, Gatsby is indeed “great” —a textbook Leo. It’s a leonine trait like no other to care about one’s appearance, about the finer details, and about things and people they love, and travel those extra few—or in Jay’s case, several—miles for them. For a Leo, regardless of the outcome, it’s the grand gestures that make them who they truly are.

Virgo (23 August - 22 September): Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Atticus is a doting father and a man of principles whose character is marked by consistency. If he’s asked to play a role, he’ll aspire for perfection—the most telling trait of this zodiac sign that often gets the bad rap of being a perfectionist even when they are supposed to have fun. Much like Atticus, Virgos are creatures of habit and practice.

Libra (23 September - 22 October): Portia from The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare
Of the 12 zodiac signs, Libra is the only inanimate one—symbolised by the scales, which stand for justice, balance, and equilibrium. Librans are ruled by Venus, who stands for all things beauty, and we know just how beautiful Portia is said to have been. Her fierce loyalty towards Antonio, coupled with her quick wit and presence of mind, are what anchor this iconic play by The Bard. Who better than a Libran (who also make for great diplomats, lawyers, and politicians) to do that?

Scorpio (23 October - 21 November):Beast from Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve
Scorpions can be intimidating at first glance, much like Beast was—gruff, moody, even a little selfish. But once you peel those layers, there emerges a kind heart with a beautiful core, much like Beast again. Scorpions have a dark side to them, and they’re not afraid to show it. It is one of the most defining traits of this zodiac sign’s personality, which Beast aptly embodies in the classic fairytale.

Sagittarius (22 November - 21 December):Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
Often nicknamed the entertainers of the zodiac, Sagittarians, much like Anne Shirley, light up a room with their mere presence. Outgoing, optimistic, and sensitive, Anne brought a spark to the otherwise restrictive atmosphere of Green Gables. This zodiac sign’s personality gives them the main character spirit, so it’s no surprise that Anne literally has a whole novel written on her. How does it matter that she’s a figment of her creator’s imagination? She’s still a dyed-in-the-wool Sagittarian.

Capricorn (22 December - 19 January): Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
These goats are creatures of resilience who, ironically, have little to no patience for the incompetence of others, much like Elizabeth Bennet who didn’t have any for poor Mr. Darcy. This zodiac sign is ambitious and caring with the people they learn to care about, much like Lizzy. But this also means they could let their pessimism get the better of them when they aren’t looking.

Aquarius (20 January - 18 February): Alice from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
You can’t put an Aquarian on a schedule of your liking, because they wouldn’t even notice if you did. This zodiac sign’s personality is defined by their impossible imaginations, much like Alice is defined by the flight of fancy she took into a wonderland that continues to enthrall children and adults alike, even 160 years since Carroll wrote it.

Pisces (19 February - 20 March): Beth March from Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Beth March is the kind, quiet, shy, and supremely gifted sister who keeps to herself but guards her family fiercely when the need arises. For the zodiac sign of Pisces, these qualities are rather defining, and Beth fits the bill perfectly. The Piscean Beth might love her whole family dearly, but can only confide in her sister Jo. This is typical of a native of her zodiac who builds the most fantastical worlds in their heads, but struggles to express as much to those in their lives.
