A night out at chef Devika Manjrekar’s Italian eatery may give you plenty of calories, but it’s all well-deserved deliciousness. The name recalls a comfort food that we all enjoy, and Manjrekar’s menu dishes up a variety of pasta with enticing combinations. Add potent cocktails and smooth as silk desserts to that and you realise that Mumbai’s got a great new place to unwind at.

From home deliveries to now a quick-service eatery, Nair on Fire serves fiery yet mellow and downright tasty Kerala food. Founded by chefs Sara Jacob Nair, Vinod G. Nair and Toral Sanghavi, this home-style eatery will have you mopping up the masalas on the plate. Among some of the must-try dishes is mutton chapli cutlet, Kerala fried chicken, prawn dosa and toasties, stew and appam and tamarind fish fry. A word of warning: just call and order, make a quick dash to the nearest home you can get to and tuck in.

Expect to wolf down immunity-boosting grub with vegan options aplenty at this yoga studio which also has a café. The all-day breakfast menu includes eggs, pancakes, idli and dosa–all in healthy variants. Also on offer is egg hoppers with mushroom xacuti for more hearty fare.

Eight, Palladium
Part of a new culinary venture called World of Craft, Eight is the first of four eateries to open here. Named after the number considered the most lucky in Chinese beliefs, the Asian restaurant is a trip to the Orient, with Chef Sagar Sarkar (formerly at Hakkasan) at its helm. The menu has sushi (of course), soups, dim sum, mains and cocktails, all geared to perk you up after a hectic shopping excursion at the mall.

This one’s for all the wannabe Mumbaikars in the capital city! There are photographs, knick-knacks, curios and furniture that instantly recall a Mumbai vibe. The menu, too, includes dishes from the different communities that make up the melting pot that Mumbai is: Goan, Parsi, Mangalorean and Anglo-Indian. The must-try dishes here include fish and chips, kheema pao and frankies–all to be chased with gulps of raspberry soda or kokum cooler.

The capital gets a new ten-seater Japanese eatery, based on the concept of a conveyor belt. Expect plenty of freshly made sashimi and sushi like crispy avocado rolls, aburi salmon rolls and red dragon rolls. Also on the menu is bubble tea.

Zooey: A Culinary Bar, Defence Colony

Star mixologist Yangdup Lama has put together the vast cocktail menu at Zooey, which can be paired with Asian, European or Mediterranean dishes. Spread over two floors with an outdoor space and plush interiors, this ‘culinary bar’ has a lavish look complete with chandeliers. Look out for live gigs planned for weekends.

Located in a green locale of Kalyani Nagar, this eatery serves Nikkei cuisine, an amalgamation of Japanese and Peruvian flavours. The drinks menu has been crafted by mixologist Yangdup Lama. The Spanish phrase the eatery is named after translates into ‘I am what I am,’ and the vibe is exactly that.

Just like its name indicates, Sake primarily focuses on Japanese flavours with plenty of Cantonese dishes thrown in for good measure. Their dishes include brie cheese baos, poached chicken Sichuan chilli oil dumplings and the delectably dubbed sushi on crack. The Asian influences extend to their robust cocktail and dessert menus. Expect simple interiors, a fun vibe and not too much of a burden on your wallet.
