Six big-ticket Bollywood films to look forward to in 2023

From three Shah Rukh Khan-starrers to a biopic, a spy thriller and a black comedy-thriller, the roster for Hindi cinema is packed with action this year

With film lovers and critics keeping their eyes peeled for 2023 as the year when the Hindi film industry finally makes a comeback since the pandemic hit us, the year is packed with big-ticket releases. While Shah Rukh Khan is returning to the silver screen with three much-awaited releases, Salman Khan will be seen in Tiger 3, the third installment of the popular movie franchise. While there’s Vicky Kaushal’s performance as he plays the eponymous role in the biopic of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the Arjun Kapoor-Naseeruddin Shah-Tabu-starrer Kuttey brings together noir and black humour. Here’s what to expect from these films.

PathaanWritten and directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films, Pathaan is set to mark the comeback of Shah Rukh Khan as one of the lead actors after five years. Also starring Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and a cameo by Salman Khan, the film has already raked up some controversy due to the row surrounding the song Besharam Rang. However, SRK fans are looking forward to this January 25 release, especially as the star will be seen in the avatar of a RAW agent.

Pathaan

Written and directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films, Pathaan is set to mark the comeback of Shah Rukh Khan as one of the lead actors after five years. Though not much is known about the plot of the film yet, we know that it will have more names from the southern film industry, both in the cast and on the music team.

While not much has been revealed about the film yet, the plot is said to revolve around the theme of homecoming, and is based on “the rampant use of an illegal backdoor route called 'Donkey Flight' by Indians to immigrate to countries like Canada and USA”, according to IMDb. 

Dunki

Starring in his first Rajkumar Hirani film, Shah Rukh Khan in Dunki will have Taapsee Pannu as his co-star and is written by Abhijat Joshi. While not much has been revealed about the film yet, the plot is said to revolve around the theme of homecoming, and is based on “the rampant use of an illegal backdoor route called 'Donkey Flight' by Indians to immigrate to countries like Canada and USA”, according to IMDb. 

KutteyVishal Bhardwaj's son, Aasmaan Bhardwaj, in his directorial debut, ropes in an ensemble cast of Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Naseeruddin Shah, Radhika Madan and Konkona Sen Sharma for his “black comedy-thriller” film set for a January release. If the trailer is anything to go by, the young Bhardwaj seems to have imbibed his father’s talent of combining noir with dark humour. Apart from the song Awaara Dogs, the film is also set to revisit the cult-popular Dhan Te Nan from the Vishal Bhardwaj-directed Kaminey.
