According to Reuters, Viacom18 has reached an agreement with Warner Bros Discovery to bring popular Hollywood content to the under-the-radar (unless you’re an IPL fan) streaming platform this month. With this collaboration, JioCinema will offer HBO content and Warner Bros shows such as Game of Thrones, Succession, and the upcoming Harry Potter series. In an attempt to find a footing in the OTT space, JioCinema will not remain free for long as the platform plans to charge users for its content and will introduce paid subscription plans soon. The IPL matches, however, will remain free for viewing. But before we can start placing bets on how successful JioCinema will be, here is a list of offerings the other OTT platforms are dishing up for their viewers this month.DahaadAfter becoming the first Indian series to premiere at The Berlinale International Film Festival earlier this year, Dahaad will release online on May 12. Created by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, and produced by Excel Media & Entertainment and Tiger Baby, the eight-part crime series stars Sonakshi Sinha (who makes her OTT debut) as a fierce cop who strives to solve a gruesome murder case, with an unsuspecting criminal on the loose, as well as Vijay Varma, Gulshan Devaiah and Sohum Shah. Starring Sanya Malhotra in the lead, the film is all set to stream on May 19. Kathal will also introduce us to Yashowardhan Mishra, its director, who is making his directorial debut and wrote the film’s screenplay along with award-winning writer Ashok Mishra.Streaming platform: NetflixImage: IMDBSaas, Bahu Aur FlamingoThis series, directed and written by Homi Adajania, revolves around four inimitable women, the matriarch Savitri, her daughters-in-law, Bijli and Kajal, and her daughter Shanta who live in Hastipur—a forgotten village in the north-west of India. Savitri runs a company named Rani Cooperative, trading products ranging from jari-booti balms to textiles. But everything here isn’t what it seems. Turns out, this cottage business is just a front for the biggest drug cartel in South Asia. The intense, high-octane drama, which streams on May 5, brings together a powerful ensemble cast, including the undisputed queen Dimple Kapadia and the talented Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar and Isha Talwar in pivotal roles. Streaming platform: Hotstar+Image: Hotstar+Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton StoryNo one knows how season three of Bridgerton will fare after its lead, Phoebe Dynevor, made a shock announcement early in the year, officially confirming that she will not return to Bridgerton. But before we can chart the show’s success or failure, fans can tune into Queen Charlotte, which chronicles Young Queen Charlotte’s marriage to King George of England, sparking an epic love story and transforming high society in this Bridgerton prequel. Throw a love story into the mix, and you have a winner. Maybe Platonic could be it.
