Popular names such as Hasan Minhaj and Star Wars, alongside the return of Four More Shots Please! are a few of the shows to keep on your watch list

From comedy to drama, action to animation, the OTT roster for October is packed with must-watch options

Popular names such as Hasan Minhaj and Star Wars, alongside the return of Four More Shots Please! are some of the shows to add to  your watch list

While October is a busy month as far as the festive calendar goes, there’s also good reason to stay at home when the endless social gatherings get a tad too much. OTT platforms seem to agree as they have a bouquet of interesting offerings lined up for this month.

As the much-awaited screen adaptation of Gregory David Roberts’s Shantaram is finally set to air on Apple TV+, comedy fans are being treated to a dose of realism, peppered with good humour by Hasan Minhaj in his latest set for Netflix. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Werewolf by Night is allegedly building up to a much-anticipated Avengers movie, an animated prequel to Star Wars tells the stories of different Jedis. Plus there’s the third installment of Four More Shots Please! as the Mumbai-based quartet of girls figure out their lives while tackling one obstacle after another. Moreover, Grey’s Anatomy returns with its 19th season as Dr. Meredith Grey continues to helm the series, much to the happiness of the show’s loyalists. Here are  our top six picks:

Hasan Minhaj: The King’s Jester on NetflixFor his second Netflix special, Hasan Minhaj brings to the fore a more intimate set as he smoothly transitions between issues regarding how his child’s life was in danger to harmlessly mocking his contemporaries. The fact that Minhaj addresses the topic of infertility and how his wife didn’t have anything to do with it was refreshing to watch. His candour while talking about his addiction to fame and how comedy is “a matter of life and death,” help in getting his sincerity through to his audience. However, The King’s Jester is a lot less controversial than his previous Netflix outing Patriot Act, even though he takes his usual digs at some prominent politicians, including the Indian prime minister.

Four More Shots Please! (Season Three) on Amazon Prime(Hopefully) back with triple the sass, the third season of the cult favourite series on Amazon Prime is set to release on October 21. The  finale of the second season left viewers with a few untied plots in the lives of Sayani Gupta’s Damini, Bani J’s Umang, Kirti Kulhari’s Anjana and Maanvi Gagroo’s Siddhi. While Umang walks down the aisle to marry Samara (played by Lisa Ray) with some reluctance but seems to gain clarity on seeing her, Damini has two men vying for her, even as she develops a complication in her pregnancy. Siddhi applies to a comedy course in New York as she looks to discover herself and Anjana is struggling to come to terms with her sense of betrayal by Sashank. While we love the desi take on Sex and the City, we also coudn’t help feeling that the first season packed in more than the last one. Here’s hoping that the third season holds the series in good stead!

Grey’s Anatomy (Season 19) on Disney+HotstarBack after Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital was left in array at the end of the previous season, Dr Meredith Grey is seen holding the reins as she tries to ease in another batch of doctors into the hospital’s programmes. While her own life is a mess as she failed to travel to reunite with her lover, Dr Nick Marsh, Grey is seen picking up the pieces at the hospital as she tries to restore its glory.  While the series has been a hot favourite with many since it first premiered in 2005, it has been subjected to the debate about whether it is being dragged on beyond its organic expiry date. However, loyalists seem to be keeping viewership numbers high, which guarantees its renewal, season after season.
